[Saba Sports News] The Phoenix Suns are still expected to trade Kevin Durant this offseason, and a new report has shed light on how much interest the 35-year-old star could draw.
Appearing on NBA Today Wednesday, ESPN’s Shams Charania said the Durant trade discussions are likely to ramp up now that the Suns have officially hired their new head coach. A deal could materialize before the NBA Draft, with multiple teams already positioning themselves as potential suitors.
“There is expected to be a robust market for him, (with) four to six teams seriously interested in Durant potentially ahead of the NBA Draft,” Charania said.
While Charania didn’t name any specific teams, it’s not hard to guess who some of them might be. The Houston Rockets have been frequently linked to Durant and may be Phoenix’s preferred trade partner. The Minnesota Timberwolves have also been mentioned as a possible destination, and there are reports of mutual interest between Durant and the Miami Heat.
Given the Suns’ recent coaching hire, it appears they made the move with the expectation that Durant won’t be part of the roster next season. All signs point to a trade, possibly before the end of the month.
