[Saba Sports News] The Atlanta Hawks’ trade deadline moves have sparked questions about Trae Young’s future with the team.
During an appearance on NBATV, NBA reporter Chris Haynes hinted that Young may be frustrated with the Hawks’ direction. Haynes also wrote on X that Young’s future in Atlanta is “becoming murky,” suggesting that the situation could be revisited in the offseason.
“He’s a fierce competitor. He wants to win. I’m just saying—he wants to win. The direction of the Hawks is very unique considering they know where he stands and what he wants to accomplish,” Haynes said.
Haynes also noted that the San Antonio Spurs had considered trading for Young before ultimately acquiring De’Aaron Fox, who was easier to land. The implication is clear—Young may not be happy with the Hawks’ trajectory.
Atlanta’s decision to trade De’Andre Hunter on Thursday signaled that they aren’t making a strong push to contend this season. The Hawks entered play Thursday at 23-28, sitting ninth in the Eastern Conference and far from title contention.
With Young set to enter the second-to-last year of his contract next season, he could force the team to make a decision on his long-term future.
Trade rumors surrounding Young have circulated for years, but they may heat up this offseason as both sides evaluate their next steps.
Despite his impressive numbers—23.2 points and a league-leading 11.5 assists per game—Young was left off the All-Star roster, a snub he has publicly voiced his frustration about.
