[Saba Sports News] Daniel Ricciardo, racing for the Alpha Tauri Racing Team, secured fifth place in the qualifying round of the Canadian Grand Prix. In a post-race interview, Ricciardo addressed comments made by F1 superstar Jacques Villeneuve, who told him to “go home”. Ricciardo dismissed Villeneuve’s remarks, stating that he has been speaking nonsense for the past five years, as he always does. Ricciardo mentioned that he only learned about the criticism after the race and chose to ignore it. He didn’t miss the opportunity to poke fun at Villeneuve, suggesting that since the latter had a history of crashing frequently in F1, he might be better suited for ice hockey. The dispute arose from Villeneuve’s criticism during the Sky Sports F1 broadcast, where he questioned Ricciardo’s role in the sport and highlighted a disconnect between the Australian driver’s public image and his on-track performances, suggesting that Ricciardo should have retired earlier. Some fans pointed out that it was the 10th anniversary of Ricciardo’s first career F1 victory at the Montreal circuit. Villeneuve, aware of this, deliberately criticized Ricciardo to stir up controversy.
