[Saba Sports News] During the 2026 World Cup South
American qualifiers, Brazil secured a 1-0 victory over Peru, marking their
second consecutive win. However, the match was marred by controversy. In the
first half, Richarlison scored a header. However, following a lengthy
intervention by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and multiple adjustments to
the offside line, it was ultimately determined that the attacking team was in
an offside position, resulting in the disallowed goal. Post-match statistics
revealed that the VAR review process lasted for a total of six minutes and 42
seconds, setting a new record for the longest VAR intervention involving Brazil
in a single game. The extended VAR intervention caused a significant
interruption in the flow of the game, leading to dissatisfaction from the
Brazilian coach. He went on to criticise the referee’s professionalism. Some
fans sarcastically remarked that regardless of how the referee made the call,
it would always be ruled as offside.
