[Saba Sports News] The Houston Rockets are actively seeking a resolution for Kevin Porter Jr.’s situation before training camp. Options being considered include trading or waiving the 23-year-old guard. Porter, a former first-round pick, faced recent felony charges of assault and strangulation stemming from an incident with his girlfriend, former WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick.
The severity of the allegations has raised doubts about Porter’s future in the NBA.
The Rockets had previously been looking to trade Porter, but given the circumstances, it’s becoming increasingly challenging to find a willing team. To sweeten the deal, Houston is reportedly exploring ways to incentivize teams to take on Porter’s contract.
Ideally, the Rockets hope to find a trade partner for Porter due to the significant guaranteed money left on his contract, including $15.9 million for the upcoming season and a current partial guarantee of $1 million for 2024-25.
However, if no suitable trade materializes before camp, they may opt to waive Porter to remove him from their roster.
