[Saba Sports News] Virat Kohli considers Rohit Sharma a captain’s “nightmare”, revealed Ravichandran Ashwin.
Divulging on details about his statement, Ashwin recalled a chat he had with Kohli on the lines of how is the toughest opposition batter to be captaining while he is batting in the slog overs.
Ashwin’s initial response was MS Dhoni, who is widely regarded as the greatest finisher the sport has seen. However, according to Kohli, it is Rohit as against him, it is impossible to set the field in the final overs of the innings as he has all the cricketing shots in his book.
“5-6 years back, Virat Kohli and I had a discussion while Rohit was batting. I don’t remember which match it was. Seeing Rohit bat, I was thinking, “Where do you even bowl to him? If Rohit is set after 15-20 overs, you wouldn’t know where to bowl to him,” Ashwin said as quoted on his YouTube channel
“Virat asked me, “Do you know who is a captain’s nightmare at the death? I asked, “Is it Dhoni?” Kohli was like, “No, it is Rohit.” When I asked him why, he said you won’t know where to bowl,” he added.
Explaining the reasoning behind Kohli’s words, Ashwin said:
“If Rohit Sharma is batting at the end of the 16th over in a T20, where will you bowl? He has got all the shots in the book and once he played an extraordinary knock in Chinnaswamy stadium that Kohli can never forget, it seems. Rohit Sharma has got all the shots, and he makes it look so effortless and easy.”
Meanwhile, Rohit is looking in a sublime touch in the Asia Cup 2023. He is the top-scorer for India, having accumulated 194 runs in four innings so far.
On a difficult batting pitch, he hammered a half-century, pushing India to a competitive total of 213 runs against Sri Lanka. India won that fixture by 41 runs and qualified for the final of the ongoing Asia Cup.
