[Saba Sports News] India clinched their eighth Asia Cup title by defeating Sri Lanka with a convincing ten-wicket win in the final at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Sri Lanka’s captain, Dasun Shanaka, chose to bat first, but his team managed only 50 runs, their second-lowest total in ODIs. Mohammed Siraj was the star, taking 6/21 in seven overs.
In response, India comfortably chased down the target in 15.2 overs without losing a wicket. However, off the field, Indian captain Rohit Sharma forgot his passport in the team hotel, prompting him to call a support staff member to bring it to him after he had already boarded the team bus.
Rohit Sharma’s forgetful tendencies, as mentioned by Virat Kohli in a previous interview, added a humorous element to the incident. Kohli revealed that Rohit often forgets his personal belongings and important documents, much to the amusement of his teammates. A video of this latest episode of Rohit’s forgetfulness went viral on social media.
Regarding the match, India’s new opening pair, Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill, played aggressively, scoring boundaries from the very first over. They easily achieved the target in just 6.1 overs, recording India’s biggest win in terms of balls remaining (263 balls). Kishan remained unbeaten on 23* (18), while Gill scored 27* off 19.
With this victory, India maintained their dominance in the Asia Cup, making them the most successful team in the tournament’s history, followed by Sri Lanka with six titles and Pakistan with two titles.
