[Saba Sports News] Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Women have secured their maiden playoff berth in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024, defeating the defending champions, Mumbai Indians (MI) Women, in a crucial league encounter on Tuesday.
Led by Smriti Mandhana, RCB turned their fortunes around this season after falling short of the knockout stage in the previous edition. Their third-place finish on the points table guarantees them a spot in the Eliminator match against either Delhi Capitals (DC) or Mumbai Indians, depending on the final standings.
The penultimate match of the ongoing tournament saw RCB deliver a masterful performance against Harmanpreet Kaur’s MI, securing a convincing seven-wicket victory.
The star of the match was all-rounder Ellyse Perry, who left a lasting impact with both bat and ball. Perry’s exceptional bowling display saw her claim six crucial wickets for just 15 runs, restricting MI to a modest total of 113.
Not content with her bowling heroics, Perry also showcased her batting acumen by crafting an unbeaten innings of 40 runs off 38 balls, guiding her team to victory in just 15 overs. Her stellar performance marked RCB’s historic first-ever win over MI in WPL history.
All eyes now turn to the pivotal clash between DC and Gujarat Giants (GG), slated to take place on Wednesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, which will determine RCB’s opponent in the Eliminator on Friday at the same venue.
Should DC emerge victorious, MI will lock horns with RCB in the knockout showdown. However, if DC faces defeat by a significant margin, approximately by 120 runs or with around 90 balls to spare, they will play Eliminator against RCB.
