[Saba Sports News] According to reports from Spanish media, former president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, was mistakenly apprehended and arrested by local security personnel upon his recent return to Madrid, Spain from abroad. Rubiales was arrested immediately after disembarking the plane on suspicion of bribery and contract fraud. The controversy surrounding Rubiales arose during the previous year’s Women’s World Cup when, as the president of the Spanish Football Federation at the time, he kissed Spanish female footballer Jeane during the awards ceremony without her consent. This incident sparked significant outrage, leading to Rubiales’ resignation under pressure. However, he still received a three-year “football ban” from FIFA as a consequence. Subsequently, investigations into his tenure revealed irregularities, prompting Spanish authorities to search the headquarters of the Spanish Football Association and various locations, including Rubiales’ residence, in order to gather evidence related to corruption within the association.
