Sports News] Recent reports from Spanish media indicate that former president
of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, is allegedly involved in a
corruption scandal. Spanish prosecutors have issued an arrest warrant for
Rubiales after uncovering irregular contracts dating back to 2016, which are
suspected to involve commercial corruption, money laundering, and other
criminal activities. This incident was triggered by the revelation of an
agreement between Rubiales, the former chairman of the Spanish Football
Federation, and Pique to hold the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, leading to
suspicions of illicit transactions. It is surprising that Rubiales and his
family are currently in the Dominican Republic rather than Spain. Although the
Dominican Republic and Spain do not have extradition laws, prosecutors believe
that Rubiales will eventually return to Spain to face investigation. Rubiales
had previously attracted controversy for kissing Spanish player Hermoso after a
Women’s World Cup match and later announced his resignation on September 11,
2023.
