[Saba Sports News] The New Year’s Test being played between South Africa and India at the Newlands, Cape Town continues to throw surprises.
After South Africa were bowled for a paltry total of 55 runs, it took only 34.5 overs for India to get bundled as already 20 wickets have fallen in nearly two and a half sessions on Day 1 of the match.
India looked set for a big score. Yashasvi Jaiswal departed for a duck, however, Rohit Sharma (39) and Shubman Gil (36) consolidated the innings, forging a 55-run partnership for the second wicket.
After Rohit’s dismissal, Virat Kohli extended his remarkable run, continuing from where he left in the previous game. He top-scored with a 46-run knock.
India at one stage were at 153/4 with Kohli and KL Rahul at the crease. As Ngidi claimed Rahul’s wicket, it scripted a dramatic collapse.
The hosts lost all of their remaining wickets at 153, becoming the first team to lose its six consecutive wickets at the same score in international cricket.
Ngidi, Kagiso Rabada and Nandre Burger claimed three scalps each. Six Indian batters scored a duck.
Despite the collapse, India finished their innings with a lead of 98 runs.
