[Saba Sports News] India legend Sachin Tendulkar shed light on MS Dhoni’s rise to captaincy, revealing in a recent interview on Jio Cinema that he recommended Dhoni for the role in 2007 due to his impressive mental fortitude.
“The BCCI offered me captaincy in 2007, but my body was in terrible shape,” Tendulkar said as quoted. Highlighting Dhoni’s qualities, he added, “My observation of MS Dhoni was very good. His mind is very stable, he’s calm, he’s instinctive, and makes the right decisions. I recommended him for the captaincy.”
Dhoni’s leadership went on to be a defining aspect of Indian cricket, with the wicketkeeper-batsman leading the team to numerous victories.
He’s the only skipper to win three different major ICC trophies: the 2007 T20 World Cup, the unforgettable 2011 World Cup win on home soil, and the 2013 Champions Trophy.
Beyond trophies, Dhoni was a master of composure under pressure, earning him the nickname “Captain Cool.” His strategic thinking and ability to spot young talent were crucial in building a strong Indian team. Dhoni’s leadership undoubtedly secured his place as a legend in Indian cricket history.
Dhoni still features in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the 2024 season.
