[Saba Sports News] Bangladeshi cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has embarked on a political journey, joining the country’s ruling party, the Awami League. He is actively campaigning for the 2024 General Elections, aiming to secure a win for his party. Recently, Shakib has been the focus of several campaign videos. In one video, he appears unenthusiastic while taking selfies with fans, seen yawning and showing a lack of expression.
On the cricket front, Shakib last represented Bangladesh in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Under his captaincy, the team finished eighth out of ten, achieving two wins in nine matches. Despite a promising start with a victory over Afghanistan, Bangladesh struggled to maintain their form, suffering six consecutive defeats, including a notable loss to the Netherlands.
Shakib’s personal performance in the tournament was modest. He scored 186 runs over seven innings, averaging 26.57 with a single half-century. His bowling was similarly subdued, claiming nine wickets across seven innings at an average of 36.55.
Shakib’s cricketing achievements, however, are significant. He is revered as one of modern cricket’s greatest all-rounders, holding numerous records. He is the highest run-scorer for Bangladesh in T20Is, with 2382 runs from 116 innings, and leads in wickets across all formats—233 in Tests, 317 in ODIs, and 140 in T20Is.
