[Saba Sports News] Shaquille O’Neal previously claimed he chose Louisiana State University (LSU) because of head coach Dale Brown, but he recently revealed the real reason on “The OGs Show.”
“I went to a game, and there were so many beautiful, curly-haired, blue-eyed, green-eyed girls at the stadium,” O’Neal shared. “One girl named Madison, she was so fine. She said she’d tutor me, and I thought, ‘That’s what I want.’ Madison, if you’re watching this, I love you.”
O’Neal also recalled the excitement of the LSU crowd chanting his name during a football game, which sealed the deal. At just 16 years old, the atmosphere and fanfare made a lasting impression, leading him to sign with LSU that month.
During his three seasons at LSU, O’Neal averaged 21.6 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 4.6 blocks per game, earning SEC Player of the Year twice and the 1991 Adolph Rupp Trophy. However, team success eluded him, with the second round being the furthest he advanced in the NCAA Tournament.
