[Saba Sports News] In a recent media interview, Chinese badminton player Shi Yu Qi shared some personal insights beyond the sport. When asked about his favorite activities outside of badminton, surprisingly, singing turned out to be one of his greatest passions. Among the songs he loves, the one he mentions most often and that holds the deepest meaning for him is the uplifting English song You Raise Me Up. He said the song not only inspires him but has also accompanied him through many tough times. Shi once recorded and released his own cover of the song on his birthday. Later, when the song was played at the arena following China’s Sudirman Cup victory, he was moved to tears.
These few songs that Shi Yu Qi loves to listen to together reveal the most authentic version of himself: a resilience that withstands pressure and brings self-healing, a tenderness he doesn’t easily show, and a relaxed, genuine youthful spirit. Off the court, he’s just an ordinary person who is touched by music and hums along to his favorite songs. It’s this real and vivid side of him that has endeared him to even more people—who have come to admire him not only as a dedicated athlete but also as someone who lives life with sincerity.
