[Saba Sports News] At last week’s BWF World Tour Finals, Chinese men’s singles player Shi Yuqi claimed victory on home soil, reaffirming his strength. His father, Shi Lei, confirmed after the match that his son had been playing injured since the last group match, making the championship win quite challenging. Shi Lei also revealed that after a slump following the Paris Olympics, Shi Yuqi faced online harassment from fans and had considered retirement. He only regained his motivation and decided to continue his career about a month ago, wanting to push forward. Therefore, upon returning to the national team, he worked hard to change himself, aiming to improve his form and return to the level he had before the Olympics. Shi Lei stated that his son is just an ordinary athlete who wants to excel at what he loves, which is his current focus. In previous interviews, Shi Yuqi admitted that in the months following his failure to win a medal at the Paris Olympics, he felt somewhat distracted during matches, like a worker going through the motions without hope. However, he now feels he can bring joy to fans while also sensing their support and love.
