Chae Yu Jung is a badminton prodigy who, at the age of 18, achieved a double crown in mixed team and women’s doubles at the Badminton World Junior Championships. In her first year in the senior group, she partnered with Choi Sol Gyu to win the mixed doubles championship at the Vietnam Badminton Grand Prix. At the 2017 Sudirman Cup mixed team competition, Chae and the South Korean team unexpectedly defeated China to win the championship, marking her first world title in her athletic career.
After the 2017 Sudirman Cup, Chae devoted all her energy to mixed doubles, forming a stable partnership with Seo Seung Jae, becoming the first mixed doubles pair for the South Korean team in the Tokyo and Paris Olympic cycles. At the 2023 World Badminton Championships, Chae and Seo progressed to the finals, where they defeated the highly-rated pair of Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong to win the mixed doubles championship.
In October of last year, Chae announced her departure from the South Korean national team and subsequently signed a contract with Zheng Siwei’s badminton academy. For the foreseeable future, she will live in China as a coach.
