[Saba Sports News] According to Portuguese media reports, Viktor Gyokeres has had his entire July salary withheld by Sporting CP, but he will still receive his performance bonuses from last season. The Swedish striker is set to undergo a medical with Arsenal, but his transfer from Sporting has been a protracted and contentious negotiation. The most controversial moment came when Gyokeres was ordered to attend pre-season training but chose to go on strike, leading to disciplinary action. The situation worsened when a photo surfaced online showing him vacationing in Mallorca while his teammates were training. These actions came at a cost—Gypkeres missed 13 days of training in July, prompting Sporting’s president, Frederico Varandas, to demand the forfeiture of his entire July wages (approximately €350,000) as a condition for the transfer to proceed. Gyokeres agreed to the terms, allowing the move to Arsenal to be finalized. Despite the penalty for his breach of contract, Sporting has not revoked his bonuses from last season. He will still receive all performance-related payouts, including the Primeira Liga title bonus and a €500,000 incentive for his direct involvement in 50 goals (54 goals and 13 assists) during the 2024-25 campaign.
