The severity of Maheesh Theekshana’s hamstring strain,
which will be confirmed on Friday, has put his participation in the Asia Cup
final versus India in peril. On Thursday, while playing fielding in Sri Lanka’s
two-wicket victory over Pakistan, the unidentified spinner hurt his right
hamstring.
While Sri Lanka was bowling, Theekshana left the pitch
numerous times. In the 42-over-per-side match, he was observed hobbling but
managed to bowl his nine overs before being carried off the pitch in the 39th
over by the Sri Lankan dugout players.
“Maheesh Theekshana has strained his right
hamstring. The player will undergo a scan tomorrow to fully assess his
condition,” Sri Lanka Cricket posted on X on Thursday.
Theekshana’s injury adds to Sri Lanka woes. They are
already without the likes of Wanindu Hasaranga, Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru
Madushanka and Lahiru Kumara.
