[Saba Sports News] Team India Secures Asia Cup 2023 with a Dominant Ten-Wicket Victory on September 17 at R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium. Mohammed Siraj Stands Out with Outstanding Bowling Figures of 6/21.
Cricket enthusiasts around the globe have hailed the star pacer for his remarkable performance in the final showdown. Notably, Indian filmmaker SS Rajamouli joined the chorus of admirers, lauding the 28-year-old’s exceptional bowling display.
Taking to his official X account, Rajamouli expressed his admiration for the Indian cricketer, writing, ‘Siraj Miyan, our pride from Tolichowki, shines in the Asia Cup final with six wickets… and he exhibits tremendous sportsmanship, sprinting to long-on to prevent a boundary off his own delivery.’
In the game itself, Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to bat first. Unfortunately for them, this decision backfired as they were dismissed for a mere 50 runs in 15.2 overs, all thanks to the brilliant performances of Mohammed Siraj and Hardik Pandya with the ball.
India’s ace fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, struck early, removing opener Kusal Perera for a two-ball duck.
Following Bumrah’s breakthrough, Mohammed Siraj took the stage and took four wickets in the fourth over of the innings, accounting for Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, and Dhananjaya de Silva.
The 28-year-old continued his impressive spell by dismissing Sri Lankan skipper Shanaka and wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Mendis, eventually claiming a total of six wickets. Hardik Pandya complemented Siraj’s performance by taking three wickets, restricting Sri Lanka to just 50 runs.
India’s opening pair, Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill, confidently pursued the target in the seventh over, sealing a comprehensive ten-wicket victory with a remarkable 263 balls to spare.
This victory marked India’s eighth title in the Asia Cup, including seven in ODIs and one in the T20I format.
