[Saba Sports News] According to British media reports, Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer was stopped by World Cup stadium staff after attempting to shake hands with Dan Burn. Shearer travelled to Atlanta to watch England’s semi-final against Argentina. The 55-year-old Magpies icon tried to approach fellow Newcastle star Dan Burn before kick-off, but the move landed him in trouble. Kelly Summers recounted her colleague’s incident live on BBC broadcast: “He tried waving over to Dan Burn, thinking Burn was waving back at him. But Dan Burn wasn’t acknowledging him at all — he was waving to his family instead. Alan Shearer did get to shake his hand eventually, yet that drew the attention of stadium stewards here, as such interactions were prohibited. I don’t think the staff recognised who he was.” Shearer appeared unfazed by the little incident and laughed throughout the segment when the story aired on the show.
The editor believes that 34-year-old Dan Burn has become somewhat of a cult hero among England supporters at this tournament. Few expected him to see much game time in England’s 26-man squad, yet Burn delivered several pivotal contributions to the side.
