[Saba Sports News] Team USA narrowly avoided an upset against Serbia in the Olympic men’s basketball semifinals, thanks to a heroic performance by Stephen Curry.
Curry led all scorers with 36 points in Team USA’s 95-91 victory over a Serbian team anchored by Nikola Jokic. Despite trailing by as many as 17 points and being down 13 heading into the fourth quarter, Team USA mounted a comeback, relying heavily on Curry.
Curry, the two-time NBA MVP, hit nine three-pointers, including a crucial one with 2:24 remaining to give the U.S. a 91-86 lead. He followed that up with a key steal and layup, extending the lead to 93-85 with 1:41 left. Curry then sealed the win with two free throws with 8.2 seconds remaining.
Curry finished 12-of-19 from the field, including 9-of-14 from three-point range, and grabbed 8 rebounds. While LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Joel Embiid also contributed in the fourth quarter, Curry’s performance was the decisive factor in keeping Team USA in contention for the gold medal.
