[Saba Sports News] After leading Team USA to a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, head coach Steve Kerr reflected on the unique experience of coaching LeBron James. Having spent years strategizing against LeBron in the NBA, particularly during their five playoff battles—including four intense NBA Finals—Kerr found it special to finally be on the same side.
“Coaching LeBron after all these years of trying to figure out how to beat him was a blessing,” Kerr said. “His professionalism, coachability, and mastery of the game were incredible to witness up close. I’m a LeBron fan for life.”
For Kerr, who secured his first Olympic gold medal as a coach in what is expected to be his final Olympic appearance, the experience was deeply meaningful. LeBron, who won his third gold medal in what is also likely his last Olympic run, added another milestone to his legendary career. The mutual respect between Kerr and LeBron was evident throughout the tournament.
Interestingly, the Warriors reportedly explored a trade for LeBron during the past season, but while that deal didn’t happen, coaching him on the Olympic stage served as a fitting culmination of their long-standing rivalry. Kerr, who holds a 3-2 advantage over LeBron in playoff meetings, understands better than most the challenges of preparing for a player of LeBron’s caliber. This Olympic experience gave him a firsthand look at what makes LeBron so special—not just as a player, but as a leader and teammate. It’s a bond that will leave a lasting impact on both legends as they reflect on their careers.
