[Saba Sports News] Australia’s squad for the two-match Test series against the West Indies will be announced on Wednesday, revealing who will replace David Warner in the opening position.
While there are numerous candidates fighting for that spot, the list has been pruned down to two with Steve Smith and Cameron Green being seen as Warner’s successor, as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald.
The Herald Sun has zeroed in on a name, reporting that Smith is likely to get a promotion and will be seen opening alongside Usman Khawaja.
While Smith himself has conveyed that he is keen to taken on a new challenge, it will also allow Green to bat his favourable No.4 position.
Matt Renshaw is also expected to be picked as a reserve batter. Marcus Harris and Cameron Bancroft, who were also vying for the opening spot, are unlikely to be included in the squad.
