[Saba Sports News] The Phoenix Suns are shoring up their frontcourt with a key acquisition.
On Wednesday, the team announced via social media that they have traded for center Nick Richards from the Charlotte Hornets.
According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the Suns will receive Richards and a future second-round pi
ck, while forward Josh Okogie and three second-round picks head to Charlotte.
Richards, 27, is a true seven-footer earning $5 million this season and next. In 21.0 minutes per game for the Hornets, he has averaged 8.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and a career-best 1.2 blocks.
The underperforming Suns, currently below .500, urgently needed reinforcements at center. Jusuf Nurkic has struggled on both ends of the floor, while Mason Plumlee, turning 35 in March, hasn’t been a consistent solution.
Richards brings length, athleticism, and a fresh dynamic to the roster. Adding him also gives Phoenix an edge after beating out significant rivals in the trade market.
