[Saba Sports News] Suryakumar Yadav recently underwent a groin surgery in Munich, Germany, marking his second such procedure in a short period. The top-ranked T20I batsman’s operation was conducted by a specialist on Wednesday. Similar to KL Rahul’s surgery in 2022, his recovery is expected to take around four to five weeks, possibly longer.
This surgery follows his ankle operation, which was necessitated by an injury during the T20 International series in South Africa last month. According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Suryakumar is anticipated to be ready for the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting in late March and fully fit for the T20 World Cup in June.
The National Cricket Academy (NCA) has strategically planned Suryakumar’s recovery to ensure his readiness for the World Cup. This approach mirrors their successful rehabilitation of other players like Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul for last year’s World Cup. Suryakumar was in rehab at the NCA before traveling to Munich.
Groin or hernia surgeries are generally not considered severe, with patients often jogging from the second day. However, Suryakumar’s case is treated cautiously due to his recent ankle surgery. He shared a post-surgery photo on Wednesday evening, accompanied by his wife Devisha.
In other news, the BCCI has confirmed Bengaluru and Delhi as the venues for the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) season. The league is set to start in Bengaluru and finish in Delhi, with the schedule yet to be released to the teams. The opening match could potentially feature the finalists from the previous season, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals.
