[Saba Sports News] Swiss racing driver Laura Villars recently revealed significant news in a media interview, announcing her formal candidacy for the presidency of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). This announcement has attracted widespread attention, making her the first woman in FIA history to seek this position. Speaking to media afterward, she stated: “The FIA must once again become a federation of clubs and license holders,” adding that her goal is to establish a governance system that is more democratic, transparent, accountable, and open to women and the new generation. However, the editor believes that Laura’s chances of winning the election are very slim. The FIA President is elected by a vote of the FIA General Assembly, which consists of representatives from the FIA’s member clubs, totaling over 200 people. Laura is relatively young, and although she has experience in the racing field, she may lack sufficient experience in managing large international organizations. Compared to other potential competitors, she might have certain gaps in resources and influence. Furthermore, traditional mindsets within motorsport and existing power structures could pose significant challenges to her campaign.
