[Saba Sports News] According to British media reports, Swiss international striker Breel Embolo has failed to secure entry clearance for the United States and could not travel with the Swiss national team for pre-tournament training camp on US soil. The entire Swiss squad flew to the United States on local Tuesday to prepare for this summer’s World Cup, with Embolo the sole player left behind in Switzerland. Born in Cameroon, Embolo came through Switzerland’s youth academy system and has earned international caps for Switzerland, registering 85 appearances and 23 goals for the national side to date. Immigration complications have prevented him from obtaining entry approval from US Citizenship and Immigration Services. The Swiss Football Association confirmed Embolo’s entry permit was initially granted, only to be notified on Tuesday that the documentation was “pending further review”. The national team shared an onboard group photo taken aboard their flight, noting disappointment over one vacant seat on the plane.
The editor believes that it is hoped that Embolo will secure his entry approval shortly and head to San Diego, California in the United States as soon as possible, where Switzerland have set up their World Cup training base.
