[Saba Sports News] Taiwanese badminton star Tai Tzu-Ying has posted on social media that she is about to undergo knee surgery. After the Paris Olympics, Tai applied for ranking protection from the Badminton World Federation following her participation in the Taipei Open in October, suggesting that her retirement plans might change as a result. Previously, Tai had attempted to overcome her knee injury through training and treatment, but the results were not significant. The upcoming knee surgery is undoubtedly aimed at completely resolving this issue. At the Paris Olympics, Tai was unable to advance past the group stage. In her match against Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon, she displayed tenacity and excellent technique, and although she ultimately did not win, her performance was still impressive. Originally, Tai planned to retire after the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, but for various reasons, she chose to continue competing. Now, the knee surgery and recovery process may prompt her to reconsider her retirement plans. Regarding this, Tai’s father stated that her situation will become clearer only after the surgery, so no competition schedule has been set at this stage, with her recovery being the priority.
