[Saba Sports News] On the evening of November 7th, former badminton women’s singles world No. 1 and Tokyo Olympic women’s singles silver medalist Tai Tzu-Ying announced her retirement via a social media post. Regarding the reason for her retirement, Tai Tzu-Ying stated it was the pain caused by injuries. She revealed that during the final matches last year, knee pain forced her to leave the court, preventing a complete conclusion to her career. Unsure how much time she would need to accept and let go of everything from last year, and not wanting everyone to see her in such a vulnerable state, she felt unable to provide a perfect retirement ceremony. Additionally, in her lengthy post, Tai Tzu-Ying expressed gratitude for badminton and her fans, hoping her spirit would accompany everyone moving forward. Records show that Tai Tzu-Ying is the most outstanding women’s singles player in Chinese Taipei badminton history, with a remarkably successful career. In November 2016, she first reached the BWF women’s singles world No.1 ranking, becoming the first female “world champion” in Chinese Taipei badminton history. She cumulatively held the world No.1 spot for 214 weeks, setting a women’s singles record.
