[Saba Sports News] Former cricketer Nafees Iqbal, who is the elder brother of star batter Tamim Iqbal, has been removed from his role as Bangladesh’s operational manager. This decision was influenced by Shakib Al Hasan and follows the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) exclusion of an unfit Tamim from the ODI World Cup squad.
The controversy began during the third ODI between Bangladesh and New Zealand when Nafees Iqbal’s name appeared on the team sheet but mysteriously disappeared during the game. Speculation suggests a disagreement between Nafees and the team’s management triggered these events. Matters escalated when Nafees left during the series decider.
Reports indicate that Shakib didn’t want Nafees as the team manager for the upcoming tour in India. The Bangladeshi captain conveyed his stance to the BCB team management, who accepted his request.
This saga traces back to a controversy when Tamim informed the BCB that he was not in optimal physical condition for the World Cup in India. As a result, Tamim was excluded from the squad, leading to Nafees’ removal from his managerial role within the team. Rumors of Nafees being ousted from the role had previously surfaced during the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.
