[Saba Sports News] Recently, Bayern Munich loanee Mathys Tel sparked outrage among Tottenham Hotspur fans by posting a picture on social media wearing a jersey of Fulham winger Willian Borges da Silva. Willian had been set to join Spurs in the summer of 2013, having passed his medical, but he changed his mind at the last minute and joined Chelsea instead. He later stated, “This was the best decision of my career,” which led to a long-standing animosity from Spurs fans toward him. Willian’s subsequent transfer to Arsenal further fueled this sentiment. In response, Spurs fans commented, “Tel is now wearing the jersey of Judas (a known traitor),” and “Willian has played for our two biggest rivals, so wearing his jersey is a bit crazy.” The angry comments from fans prompted Tel to delete the social media post, to which he replied, “Sorry, I didn’t know the background story.” The 19-year-old Tel has not performed well since joining Spurs on loan during the winter transfer window, scoring just once in seven appearances. Bayern had previously hoped Spurs would activate a €60 million buyout clause, but it seems he is likely to be “returned.”
