[Saba Sports News] South Africa is set to face Australia in the second semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on November 16. This match follows the first semi-final between India and New Zealand at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
In preparation, South African captain Temba Bavuma engaged in an optional training session, focusing on his fitness. The 33-year-old batter ran laps around the outfield, performed fitness drills under the guidance of team physiotherapist Sizwe Hadebe and strength and conditioning coach Runeshan Moodley, and completed shuttle runs. Although Bavuma appeared comfortable while jogging, he occasionally paused, hunching down with his hands on his sides, and was seen with strapping on his leg.
Later in the session, Bavuma practiced shadow batting with a stump and interacted with coach Rob Walter, before entering the nets to bat and observe teammate Rassie van der Dussen. He also practiced knocking balls down the track.
The South African medical team reported to ESPNcricinfo that Bavuma’s right hamstring strain has improved significantly over the past 72 hours. They continue to assess his progress and are implementing a management plan to increase his chances of playing on Thursday.
The medical team also clarified that Bavuma’s participation in the training was part of his rehabilitation and recovery plan, rather than a fitness test.
