[Saba Sports News] Liverpool recently unveiled a new monument at Anfield to mark the 41st anniversary of the Heysel Stadium disaster and pay tribute to the 39 football fans who lost their lives in the tragedy on 29 May 1985. Named Forever Bound, the monument now stands in a newly designated area beside the Anfield Road Stand, offering a prominent and accessible place for remembrance and reflection. The sculpture was first presented at a special ceremony at Anfield last May, replacing the original memorial plaque mounted on the wall of the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand. Thoughtfully and empathetically designed, it features two scarves loosely tied together, symbolising the enduring bond between Liverpool FC and Juventus in the wake of the tragedy in Brussels.
The editor believes that the unveiling of Forever Bound once again demonstrates Liverpool’s remembrance of those who perished in the Heysel disaster, as well as the club’s commitment to ensuring the lessons and legacy of that tragedy are honoured with dignity and respect.
