[Saba Sports News] Former world number one male doubles player from Indonesia, Marcus F. Gideon, revealed that he is considering a return to international badminton competition. One of the reasons that prompted him to think about a comeback is his strong interest in challenging the South Korean top men’s doubles pair Seo Seung Jae and Kim Wonho. This world number one Korean duo defeated Malaysia’s Aaron Chia Teng Fong and Soh Wooi Yik in the finals of the All England Open Badminton Championships, successfully defending their title. Gideon announced his retirement in March last year, but he stated that he has been following the developments in international badminton and is very excited about the possibility of facing Seo Seung Jae and Kim Wonho in the future.
The dominance displayed by Seo and Kim resembles the strong period when Gideon and his former partner Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo ruled the sport. This Indonesian pair dominated the BWF World Tour from 2017 to 2022, maintaining the world number one ranking for 260 consecutive weeks, becoming the most formidable men’s doubles team at the time.
The editor believes that Gideon’s father passed away on January 29 of this year, and his last wish was to see his son return to the court. To fulfill his father’s wish, Gideon has made plans for a comeback.
