[Saba Sports News] Previously, Macclesfield, a team from the sixth tier of English football, pulled off a shocking upset in the FA Cup third round by eliminating defending champions Crystal Palace. Macclesfield is an amateur team, and many of their players have other jobs in addition to playing football. One of them is defender Sam Heughan. After facing Crystal Palace last weekend, Heughan returned to his regular job as a physical education teacher on Monday, teaching at Stamford Park Junior School in Altrincham.
In an interview with the media, Heughan said, “I went straight back to reality this morning, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the kids. Last week at school, I mentioned that if we conceded fewer than 10 goals against Crystal Palace, we would be happy, and they all laughed. When we played Slough in the second round last time, a few kids watched the match, and one of the first things they said to me was, ‘You gave away a penalty.’ They might not focus on the fact that we won but rather on my yellow card. Some of them will be really excited, God bless them, especially those older kids who are really starting to enjoy football.” Heughan joined Macclesfield in the summer of 2023 and balances his teaching job with training twice a week. He teaches children aged 3 to 11 and hopes that the victory over Crystal Palace will inspire his students.
