[Saba Sports News] Shams Charania of The Athletic reported on Sunday that Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado suffered an ankle sprain during a weekend workout, casting doubt on his availability for the upcoming training camp in early October. Nicknamed “Grand Theft,” the 25-year-old Alvarado is a key bench player for the Pelicans, averaging 7.7 points, 2.9 assists, and 1.2 steals in just 18.6 minutes per game over his two seasons with the team.
However, he missed a significant portion of the previous season due to a stress fracture in his right tibia and is now facing a new leg injury that jeopardizes his participation in this year’s training camp.
This unfortunate news follows less than two weeks after his teammate Trey Murphy III suffered a meniscus tear during an offseason workout, which will keep him out for an extended period.
The Pelicans also continue to deal with the uncertainty surrounding Zion Williamson’s status, making it a challenging time to be a fan of the team.
