[Saba Sports News] With the significant technical regulation reforms in F1 set for the 2026 season, the Red Bull Racing team is entering a whole new phase of development. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko recently stated that collaborating with Ford to create a proprietary power unit marks a new direction for the team. This not only signifies a major technical shift but also indicates a profound adjustment in the team’s operational model.
In light of the new regulations for 2026, Red Bull Racing has chosen to participate in engine development as a manufacturer for the first time. Previously, the team heavily relied on Honda for power, during which time they helped Max Verstappen win four Drivers’ Championships and two Constructors’ Championships. However, Honda had once considered withdrawing from F1, forcing Red Bull to seek new opportunities for the future. Marko admitted that this decision compelled the team to initiate their own engine development program. Even though Honda later changed its mind and decided to stay, Red Bull Racing had already made significant investments in funding and technology, making it impossible to turn back.
Ultimately, the team chose to collaborate with American automotive giant Ford to jointly develop a brand-new power unit for the 2026 season. In my view, this partnership is not only a technical alliance but also a deep integration of brand and commercial elements.
