[Saba Sports News] According to British media reports, the Premier League’s official Twitter account posted a tweet seemingly mocking Tottenham Hotspur before deleting it shortly afterwards. After Tottenham’s 1-2 away defeat to Fulham, the Premier League’s official account shared a video of Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario sending a free kick straight out for a throw-in. The caption read: “This went exactly as the tactics board said” and “Vicario with an interesting free kick”, accompanied by a laughing-crying emoji. Users quickly criticised the Premier League’s official account, pointing out that making fun of one of its own member clubs was not a good look. Sources inside Tottenham, who are currently deep in a relegation battle, were also left unhappy and have made their feelings known to league officials. The Premier League is yet to respond to a request for comment, but the post was deleted on Monday morning.
The editor believes that the Premier League’s account is regarded as the official voice of the competition and has 44.9 million followers. This mockery was an extra and unnecessary distraction for Tottenham. While Tottenham accepts criticism for their deeply disappointing performances this season, they do not expect to be ridiculed in this way by the league they belong to.
