[Saba Sports News] Recently, a documentary centered on Paralympic badminton athletes has been re-released in the United States, titled Nina is an Athlete.
The protagonist of the documentary is Nina Gorodetsky, a wheelchair badminton champion approaching her 40th birthday. She is presented with her first and last chance to compete at the Paralympic Games. While Nina is eager to represent Israel at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, she also longs to have her second child. Torn between her role as a mother and an elite athlete, she stands at a crossroads dictated by her biological clock.
To make matters more challenging, her plans, training routines and daily life were all abruptly disrupted by the global COVID-19 pandemic. The film depicts her unpredictable three-year journey of overcoming hardships to pursue her Paralympic dream while striving to fulfill her wish of expanding her family.
In my opinion, there have long been very few films and documentaries themed on badminton. It is believed that the re-screening of Nina is an Athlete will spark a new wave of enthusiasm for badminton across the globe.
