[Saba Sports News] For years, fans have speculated about the possibility of European stars Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic teaming up in the NBA.
However, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon put those rumors to rest on ‘The Hoop Collective’ podcast. He explained that the salary cap rules and the lack of assets for both the Mavericks and Nuggets make such a trade nearly impossible.
MacMahon stated, “Neither team has the assets for a blockbuster trade, which would need to be historic to land a player like Luka. The same goes for Dallas trying to acquire Jokic. The chances are extremely slim, at least for now.”
While Jokic and Doncic are close friends, often spending time together when their teams visit each other’s cities, MacMahon emphasized that a team-up is unlikely in the near future. Both players are under long-term contracts, ruling out any free agency move, so fans will have to wait if they ever hope to see the duo on the same team.
Although the NBA is known for unexpected blockbuster trades, the current salary cap rules and the competitive nature of both teams make a Jokic-Doncic partnership highly improbable in the near future.
