[Saba Sports News] A fierce overtaking battle between Charles Leclerc and George Russell at the Dutch Grand Prix required the intervention of the stewards. Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff also clearly stated his support for his driver after the race. During the overtake, the two cars made contact, sending car parts flying. The incident sparked widespread debate post-race. Some believed that although the contact was robust, it remained within the rules as a normal racing incident; others felt Leclerc’s move should have been penalized. When asked for his view by media in the post-race press conference, Wolff left no doubt about his stance: “I think the FIA wants to look at the incident from a few more angles. From my biased perspective, I think it was clearly deserving of a penalty.” However, Wolff also acknowledged there were objective factors for the Ferrari driver. He said: “Looking at the big picture after the race, considering one of our cars put Leclerc completely out of the race, whatever the stewards decide, we will accept it.” Following the incident, both Russell and Leclerc were summoned to the stewards but received no further penalties.
