[Saba Sports News] Trae Young might as well have taken a detour to Siberia during Saturday’s game—and somehow, still didn’t get called for traveling.
In one of the most blatant non-calls of the season, the Atlanta Hawks star pulled off an astonishing sequence against the Golden State Warriors late in the first quarter.
Trapped near the top of the arc after a pick-and-roll, Young picked up his dribble as Kevon Looney and Lester Quinones (not Jimmy Butler III) closed in. He came to a jump stop and established his right foot as his pivot… but then things went off the rails.
Young lifted his pivot foot, put it back down, tried to switch to his left foot as the pivot, then stepped again with his original right foot—all before finally passing the ball. It was less basketball and more interpretive dance, yet the referees let it go.
Despite Young’s full-body shuffle, the play continued without a whistle. The Hawks even capitalized, with Caris LeVert hitting a buzzer-beating midrange jumper to end the quarter. Atlanta would go on to win the game 124–115.
The most mind-boggling part? Referee Tony Brothers was standing right there, watching the entire thing unfold, and still didn’t make the call. To make matters more ironic, the missed travel happened right in front of Warriors head coach Steve Kerr—who, just weeks ago, had publicly urged the NBA to crack down on travels.
Clearly, that memo still hasn’t made its way to the officials.
