[Saba Sports News] Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro shared his reaction to the Damian Lillard-to-Milwaukee trade, which had long positioned him as a potential centerpiece in a multi-team deal that might have brought Lillard to Miami. Responding to a fan’s comment about his escape from trade rumors, Herro humorously tweeted, ‘Until next summer.’
As a Wisconsin native, Herro also expressed genuine happiness for Lillard and Milwaukee fans, mentioning his intention to get a Damian Lillard jersey.
The 23-year-old Herro must be relieved, given the recurring trade rumors that have surrounded him since his breakout rookie season in 2019-20. Over the years, he has been linked to trade talks involving various superstar players, including James Harden in 2021, Kevin Durant or Donovan Mitchell in 2022, and most recently,
Bradley Beal and Damian Lillard this summer. The Lillard rumors were particularly concerning for Herro, as reports even suggested he expected a trade.
Despite the persistent trade chatter, Herro remains with the Miami Heat. He has continued to excel, becoming a dynamic player who contributed 20-5-4 stats and earned the Sixth Man of the Year award in 2022.
Additionally, he has quietly improved his defensive skills. Herro’s youth and talent make him an appealing trade asset, especially for salary-matching purposes. Now, having dodged another trade scenario, he can focus on the 2023-24 season, looking to make a strong comeback after missing most of Miami’s 2023 Finals due to a hand injury. However, he knows that trade rumors will likely resurface next offseason.
