[Saba Sports News] UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin recently revealed a major announcement in a media interview, stating that he is currently seriously considering running for re-election. The news has drawn widespread attention since it was made public.
Čeferin has served as UEFA President for many years and has accomplished a great deal during his tenure. His most widely recognized achievement is successfully fending off the European Super League, preserving the existing structure of European football and preventing top clubs from forming a closed competition.
In addition, he has pushed through reforms to the UEFA Champions League, giving more teams from smaller leagues the opportunity to participate. He also founded the UEFA Nations League, providing national teams from smaller countries with more matches and revenue-generating opportunities.
At the same time, he has improved financial regulations to curb excessive spending by clubs and stop the unregulated expansion of money-driven football. Most of UEFA’s revenue is reinvested into grassroots football and the national football associations across Europe. As a result, he enjoys strong support from most smaller and medium-sized associations, which serves as his greatest political capital.
In our view, Čeferin’s re-election is highly likely. He has indeed proven capable of maintaining stability in European football. However, the challenges he will face after securing another term will only grow.
