[Saba Sports News] The Phoenix Suns kicked off their preseason with a 118-114 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, thanks in part to a strong performance from Damion Lee.
Days prior, Lee and the Suns announced his return for the first time since the 2022-23 season, after a lengthy recovery from a meniscus injury.
The Suns’ starters took control early, but it was the bench, led by Lee, that shined in the second half. Lee’s two three-pointers were pivotal, swinging momentum Phoenix’s way.
Having missed the entire 2023-24 season due to a complex meniscus tear, Lee’s return marked a significant milestone in his journey back to the court.
In training camp, Lee spoke about the mental battle of recovery. As he stepped onto the floor, his confidence was evident. Teammate Bradley Beal even crashed Lee’s postgame interview, celebrating his return.
With three weeks until the regular season, head coach Mike Budenholzer will likely continue to experiment with lineups. However, Lee’s sharp shooting and spacing ability make him a strong candidate for a significant role this season.
In 2022-23, he averaged 20.4 minutes and shot a career-high 44.5% from three. Lee’s shooting and energy could be key assets as the Suns prepare for their season opener against the Clippers.
