[Saba Sports News] Following France’s disappointing performance at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, Victor Wembanyama is prepared to heed the call just like Batman responds to the Bat-Signal.
In an interview with the French publication L’Equipe this week, the rising star and San Antonio Spurs rookie, Wembanyama, unveiled his intention to represent his home country, France, at the 2024 Olympic Games.
Wembanyama stated, “I will certainly be participating in the Olympics,” as per a rough translation. “I observed the outcome of the World Cup, which was quite disheartening. Nevertheless, I remain optimistic and refrain from making judgments. I wasn’t part of the team, and it’s in the hands of elite players. I believe this doesn’t diminish the opportunity to achieve something significant in Paris next year.”
During the recent FIBA World Cup, the French national team suffered an early exit, being eliminated after just two matches. Traditionally a dominant force on the international stage, France couldn’t progress beyond the group stage, leading to some harsh criticisms from team members.
However, with Wembanyama now in their ranks, the French squad has a chance at swift redemption at the 2024 Olympics, which will take place in none other than Paris. Additionally, France might boast another imposing seven-foot tall star on their Olympic roster.
