[Saba Sports News] On April 15, Danish badminton star Viktor Axelsen announced his retirement, primarily due to recurring lumbar disc prolapse and nerve compression. He recently interacted with fans via livestream, sharing updates on his recovery and even jokingly asking them for remedies to aid his rehabilitation.
Axelsen said his top priority now is to get rid of the pain. Unfortunately, he is still completely unable to play badminton, a reality he finds hard to accept. Over the past month, he has spent plenty of time in the gym doing rehabilitation exercises to relieve discomfort while building up muscle strength. In a way, he finds such workouts quite enjoyable. Though he cannot train for badminton formally, he can still work out in the gym in his preferred way. Regrettably, he is still unable to do any high-impact exercises that strain his legs and joints. He also expressed his gratitude to everyone for the ongoing care and well-wishes.
In my opinion, Viktor Axelsen has crafted an extraordinary legacy in badminton through relentless self-discipline. Forced to step away by injury, he bids farewell with no regrets after giving his all, bringing a fulfilling close to his professional career. Beyond the court, his passion for badminton will live on.
