[Saba Sports News] Recently, two-time Olympic badminton men’s singles champion Viktor Axelsen addressed the conflict with Shi Yuqi again in a media interview. He stated that Shi Yuqi was attempting to influence the service judge, which he found very objectionable. In the interview, Axelsen expressed: “I felt he was trying to influence the service judge at that time, and I strongly disagree with that. The match was very intense, and there have always been controversies regarding my serving style – some say you can only win by serving this way. These emotions had built up inside me, so when this situation occurred, I admit I did overreact and behaved quite angrily. Obviously, I could have handled it better, but athletes are human too, and sometimes emotions can get out of control. I apologize for my excessive reaction here, but at the same time, I believe Shi Yuqi’s attempt to influence the service judgment was improper, which is why I pointed out on the spot that he should appeal to the main referee.”
