[Saba Sports News] Previously, two-time Olympic men’s singles badminton gold medalist Viktor Axelsen announced his withdrawal from the Paris World Championships due to injury. However, his ultimate goal now is the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. In March, during the All England Open, a serious back issue forced Axelsen to undergo a diskectomy. While the surgery relieved the severe nerve pain, the recovery period exceeded expectations. Axelsen admitted, “If I had four more weeks, I might have made it to the World Championships, but recurring muscle strains disrupted my plan. Competing could worsen the injury and lead to several months of inactivity. It’s better to fully recover and play for a few more years.” Axelsen’s eyes are already set on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. He said, “I want to retire on my own terms, not be forced out by injuries.” Now, Axelsen is undergoing “several weeks of uninterrupted training.” He is carefully rebuilding his physical foundation, and he remains cautiously optimistic about the positive signals from the past week. Missing the World Championships is a regret, but he sees it as the right decision for his long-term career.
